Our Beginnings

Howard-Dooley Café is a family owned business that has been proudly serving the community of Mathews, Virginia since Robby and Tracey Sorey opened in 2020. “Howard-Dooley” is named after the owners’ fathers: Robby’s father, Howard Sorey and Tracey’s father, Tom “Dooley” Abrams. Howard-Dooley is proud to bring a small-town feel to its customers and wants them to feel welcome and ensure they get the top-notch service they deserve.

The Menu

When you visit Howard-Dooley, you are likely to be served by Robby and Tracey’s children, Abbie and Emily (on the menu as the Crabby Abbie and the Emerson). The Howard-Dooley menu has something for everyone, and Howard-Dooley is known for Pork BBQ, grilled meats, smoked Texas brisket, pit beef, fried chicken, fresh seafood, and homemade desserts. We’re sure to have something that will satisfy your appetite, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

The BBQ

Robby is the pit and grill master – his family has been curing, smoking, and grilling meats for generations.

Howard-Dooley is proud to offer the following items from the pit: pork ribs, brisket, sausage (that has been ground, blended, and linked in-house) BBQ pork, as well as specials: smoked BBQ chicken, smoked turkey breast, beef ribs, prime rib, and roasted beef, to name a few.

The Desserts

The homemade desserts are made in-house by staff and family; some of the staples include: peanut butter pie, coconut cream pie, and bread pudding, but at every visit to Howard-Dooley you’ll be met with a long list to choose from. We are looking forward to seeing you soon!
